The Best Beaches In Tenerife
Tenerife is one of the most renowned tourist destinations in the world. Every year, millions of travellers come to this island in the Canary Islands archipelago in search of an unbeatable climate, breathtaking landscapes, first-class gastronomy and, of course, some of the best beaches on the planet. El Bollullo Beach
Located in the northern part of Tenerife, between the towns of El Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Úrsula, this area, known as El Rincón, has some of the most outstanding beaches on the whole island, in a very characteristic setting, as access is through large banana plantations, the most characteristic fruit and symbol of the Canary Islands. After going down a path you reach El Bollullo beach, of great beauty, black sand and flanked by enormous cliffs. You have to be careful with the strong currents of the ocean water, although the beach has a lifeguard service and even a charming beach bar. If we continue walking we will arrive at Playa de los Patos, a place where the locals flock to and which is completely unspoilt.
La Tejita Beach
It is located in the south of Tenerife, very close to the town of El Médano. La Tejita Beach is located at the foot of the Montaña Roja (Red Mountain), which is 170 metres high and is the remains of a much larger volcano. From the top, after ascending a path, you can enjoy the grandeur of this beach with its very special red sand. The beach, which has been awarded the blue flag, has a nudist area and is a marvellous place for long walks.
Benijo Beach
After passing the majestic mountains of Anaga, in the northeast corner of the island, you descend steeply to the Atlantic Ocean, after crossing laurel forests, the typical jungle of the western Canary Islands, you first come into contact with the beach of Benijo. In spite of being one of the most famous places in Tenerife, it is common to find very few people here. This is due to the fact that this beach is located in a very isolated spot that is accessed by a winding road with quite a few bends. But the road is well worth it: the black sand, the unique natural environment and the strength of the sea make this place one of the best in Tenerife and one of the least known by tourists.
El Socorro Beach
Also on the north coast of the island, in the municipality of Los Realejos, this is a beach that is very popular with surf lovers, but also with fans of parasols and relaxation. As we said, despite its wild soul, it has all the necessary services for the most demanding visitor, showers, restaurants and lifeguard service. It is another of the beaches that has been awarded the blue flag distinction. You have to be careful with the rocks on the beach, which can play a trick on you if you get lost, but otherwise it is a first class beach.
El Médano Beach
One of our favourite beaches. This sandy beach is about two kilometres long and belongs to the municipality of El Médano and is located on the other side of the Montaña Roja, which acts as a barrier to the beach of La Tejita. The best thing about this beach is that it combines the best of a natural spot with all the advantages of an urban beach. In the area closest to the village it has all the necessary services for the visitor’s comfort, restaurants, shops, kiosks, bars, showers, toilets, sun loungers and parasols for rent. As we move away from the centre of the town, nature is the real protagonist and, of course, the strong wind. However, it is one of the best settings in the world for windy water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. For those who prefer to lie on a towel, the wind itself has moulded curious natural shelters between the rocky cliffs where you can relax in great comfort and protected from the wind.
Las Teresitas Beach
This is probably the most famous and most visited beach in Tenerife as it is very close to the capital and most populated city of the island, Santa Cruz. The golden colour of the sand of this beach on an island of volcanic origin is striking. In fact, it is not natural sand from Tenerife, it was brought from the Sahara desert, so technically it is an artificial beach. However, its large car park, the atmospheric bars and restaurants on the beachfront and the breakwater that protects bathers from the waves make Las Teresitas beach the perfect place to go with the family and young children.
Las Gaviotas Beach
It is located at the foot of the Anaga mountain massif, very close to the beach of Las Teresitas, but they are very different, they are like night and day. This is a totally natural beach, with very few people and located in a privileged environment, surrounded by cliffs. It belongs to the town of San Andrés, just a few kilometres from Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife, and is easily reached by a modern road.
